Weekly Photo Challenge: Fluid (Sounds and Textures of the Salish Sea)

My soul is full of longing
for the secret of the sea,
and the heart of the great ocean
sends a thrilling pulse through me.
― Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

If you’ve been reading my blog for a while, you’ve probably noticed I share many photos of the ocean. Most of them are wide shots of shoreline and sky. It’s just so awe-inspiring to drink in the vastness of the scenery. Read more

Weekly Photo Challenge: Place in the World

You will never be completely at home again, because part of your heart always will be elsewhere. That is the price you pay for the richness of loving and knowing people in more than one place.

― Miriam Adeney

I’ve moved a lot during my life, so my place in the world is made up of all the people and places I’ve loved over the years. At the same time, it’s also the place where I am at the moment. Read more

Weekly Photo Challenge: Prolific (Victoria’s Last Best Cherry Blossoms)

Most of the cherry blossoms in Victoria have already bloomed, so when I saw the theme of this week’s Daily Post photo challenge, I thought I’d have to find something else to photograph.

I was fascinated by the beautiful Gothic architecture and in particular the stained glass windows. This is the West Rose Window. I have a dim memory of standing under it in awe. My little film camera didn’t do it justice, but here it is as I saw it. Read more

Weekly Photo Challenge: Story (Upon a Sunset Ocean)

This week’s challenge from The Daily Post is to “do some visual storytelling with your photography.”

Imagine a cool, crisp evening with the ocean air in your lungs. There’s an ordinary story unfolding on the Salish Sea near Dallas Road, a dance between boats and ocean wake that’s fun to photograph in the changing light. Read more

Weekly Photo Challenge: Out of This World (Seagull Stampede on Clover Point)

There’s no question that the scenery on Vancouver Island is “out of this world.” That’s the first thing I thought of when I read the theme of this week’s photo challenge from The Daily Post.

But the challenge is also asking us to find a photo that takes a familiar scene and makes it look and feel like something out of this world. Read more

Weekly Photo Challenge: A Face in the Crowd (Travelling Alberta)

I love the topic of this week’s photo challenge from the Daily Post, to “explore the use of anonymity to express both that which is common to all of us and the uniqueness that stands out even when the most obvious parts of us are hidden.”

This week my husband and I were travelling through Alberta, and I took two photos that seem to fit this theme. Read more
