I love taking photos with delicate traceries of lines that invite you to look deep into a particular scene and find something new every time.

Trees branches are endlessly fascinating – the way light illuminates the leaves, or snow coats the branches, or dark silhouettes contrast with a winter sunset.

And sometimes the branches join with other plants to create magical woodlands. A chaotic beauty.

Magical Woodland

I don’t know which tree is which, or where they plan to grow, but it’s fun to explore there.

And when you look closer, there are little works of abstract art.

  1. Beautiful photos, especially the last one with the daffodils! Something I like about bare branches is if you look at them long enough you start to see things — faces, animals, monsters, triangles, shoes, eggs. The brain seems to create these images involuntarily.

    1. Thanks, Audrey! I think that last one is my favourite too. Oh my goodness, you’re so right – now I’m starting to see all sorts of things in the photos. As Anne of Green Gables would say, there’s so much scope for the imagination in bare branches!
