One of my New Year’s resolutions for 2018 is to pull out my long-neglected “real” digital camera and take more photos of the great outdoors. So yesterday, camera in hand, my husband and I headed out to our favourite spot near the ocean. (Yes, you guessed it – Dallas Road.) It was sunny in the early afternoon, so I was sure I was going to get the “perfect” photo of a pre-New Year’s Eve sunset to end 2017 with a bang.
Well, as we got closer to our destination, the clouds started closing in, and raindrops were falling. “But I need my perfect photos!” I told myself, and off we headed down the path.
Ten numb fingers and one raindrop-speckled camera later, I had some photos, but they didn’t seem perfect to me. I also realized they looked extra dull and dark because I forgot I was wearing sunglasses!
Okay, I have to admit those ones are a bit dark even without sunglasses!
But then I took some other ones and searched for something, anything, that looked like a silver lining in all those clouds.

And it got me thinking about the year behind and the year ahead. Not all days are perfect, but I like to think there’s a bit of beauty in every day.
So, on that note, I’ll end this post with one of my favourite quotes from author Neil Gaiman:
I hope you will have a wonderful year, that you’ll dream dangerously and outrageously, that you’ll make something that didn’t exist before you made it, that you will be loved and that you will be liked, and that you will have people to love and to like in return. And, most importantly (because I think there should be more kindness and more wisdom in the world right now), that you will, when you need to be, be wise, and that you will always be kind.
Wishing you all a Happy New Year and many thanks for reading this little blog!
Thanks for the photos, and the quote — so apt! And Happy New Year!

Cloudy days make for interesting photos most of the time. Like the second to last photo with the sliver of light the best. Happy 2018, hope it is a fabulous year!
