Playing the piano has never been my forte (pun intended). šŸ™‚ I took lessons when I was a kid, but my hearing wasn’t very good, and I was allergic to practicing, so I was no virtuoso. My teacher did notice, however, that I came to life when I was playing Baroque music, especially Mozart’s. There must have beenĀ something about the beat that I could really feel, and a beauty I couldn’t describe, even if I played a bit out of tune.

Two years ago I finished reading War and Peace by Leo Tolstoy, a masterpieceĀ of Russian literature and one of the best books I’ve ever read. It was one of the first items on the bucket list I started making when I turned 40, and I was ecstatic to have completed it.

May the Fourth be with You

One day in 1977 my dad came home with new toys for my sister and me. I received a C-3P0 action figure, and my sister received R2-D2. My dad had just seen the movie Star Wars and was struck by its originality and special effects that were very advanced for the ’70s. He said it was like nothing he had ever seen before, and it created a whole new world onscreen.

I have had the distinct privilege of living in many beautiful places in Western Canada. My birthplace was Saskatchewan, “Land of the Living Skies,” where the level plains of golden wheat fields are contrasted by a brilliant, ever-changing sky.
